TX Text Control .NET for Windows Forms Documentation

Creating a Setup Project with Visual Studio .NET

If you create a setup program for your application with a Visual Studio .NET setup project, all redistributable files will be included automatically. TX Text Control installs two separate merge modules for the 32bit and the 64bit edition. If you configure your project as described in the chapter Configure your Project for 32bit and 64bit, TX Text Control .NET chooses the proper merge module automatically. In case you wish to use a different setup toolkit, refer to the chapter Redistributable Files.

In Visual Studio .NET, a setup program is created by adding a setup project to your solution. The following is a step-by-step guide to create a setup project:

  • Open the solution in Visual Studio .NET for which you wish to create a setup program. The following example uses the VB version of the Simple sample program.
  • In the File menu, click New Project. In the New Project dialog box which pops up, make the following settings:
  • Select Setup and Deployment Projects in the Project Types window to the left.
  • Select Setup Wizard in the Templates window to the right.
  • Select a name and location where you want the setup files to be placed.
  • Select the Add to Solution option.
  • Click OK.
  • Follow the instructions in the remaining 4 dialog boxes and enter additional options as required for your application. Don't forget to include Primary Output from .. in the third dialog box.
  • Before you compile the setup project by selecting Build Setup1 from the Build menu, you may want to fine tune the options for creating start menu entries and desktop icons. Note that the setup wizard will not automatically create an entry in the start menu, you need to add a shortcut to User's Programs Menu.

The setup program should now be created in the folder you have specified. All of TX Text Control's redistributable files are contained in a merge module and will be included automatically.
