Installing TX Text Control on a Server

Internet Information Server (IIS) needs to be installed in order to run TX Text Control in server mode. It can be run on a dedicated server, or by simply activating IIS on the developer's computer. This way, a server application can be developed and tested on the same computer, without requiring access to a seperate server.

At some point an application most likely is to be transfered to a 'real', dedicated server. The following steps are required to transfer your TX Text Control license to that server.

Note that the license agreement entitles you to have TX Text Control installed on your local computer and a single server at the same time, so that you may continue maintaining your application with a local copy of TX Text Control.

  • Copy the required files as listed in the table in Distributing your Applications from your local computer to a single directory on the server. The files are located in the \bin subdirectory of your Text Control installation.
  • Copy txregsvr.exe from Text Control's \tools subdirectory to the a directory on the server
  • On the server, run txregsvr.exe. Txregsvr is a command line tool which creates the registry keys required for Text Control to run on a server. It accepts two parameters, which are the filename and path of the Text Control ActiveX file, and your serial number. Running txregsvr.exe without a parameter displays usage information.
  • Remove txregsvr.exe from the server. Please note that txregsvr.exe is not a redistributable file, and therefore must not be kept on the server.
