The following features are new or have been improved in TX Text Control .NET 14.0:
Using the new document sections feature of TX Text Control .NET 14.0, documents can be divided into an unlimited number of different parts. Each part, or section, can be formatted independently of all other sections in the document. The following document configurations and formatting options are now possible:
The orientation of a page in each section can be specified. This enables one document to contain pages with varying orientations.
Typically, this is desirable for reports in which columns of numbers and diagrams, which are particularly wide, are to be presented. The pages upon which the diagrams appear can be defined as sections and their orientation set appropriately.
The formatting of headers and footers can be specified on a per-section basis. This allows the headers and footers in each section in a document to be formatted independently from the headers and footers in all other sections.
It is often necessary to specify the individual formatting of the header and footer in specific parts of a document. For example, the first page of a chapter, the table of content page, preface or even the appendix section typically have a differently formatted headers from the other pages in the document.
The dimensions of a specific page can be set independently to the dimensions of all other pages in a document. Similarly, the margins of a specific page can be set independently to the margins of all other pages.
This feature is particularly useful when large business graphics need to be printed on a single page. By simply reducing the width of the margins on these pages, the business graphic can be displayed at maximum size, thus increasing its legibility.
TX Text Control .NET 14.0 ships with a brand new dialog box. Using the new section dialog box, all formatting options which can be set of the whole document, can also be specified for a single section.
This seemingly small but powerful improvement over previous versions allows all the new formatting options described on this page to be independently set for each section.
In TX Text Control .NET 14.0, the status bar has been improved to display information about the currently active section. The status bar now looks as follows:
![]()
So that the end-user can specific all the formatting options offered by the new sections feature, TX Text Control .NET 14.0 now ships with the following dialog box:
These are a special type of marked text fields, which are compatible to Microsoft Word and HighEdit.
Using these application fields, merge fields or address block fields can be imported from and exported to Microsoft Word documents (DOCX, DOC and RTF).
Typical applications for the new Microsoft Word compatible application fields include mail merging, quotation and report generation, or indeed any other application in which data from a database is inserted into a word processing document.
Furthermore, using TX Text Control .NET 14.0 developers can build applications, which allow end-user to utilize their legacy word processing documents, which already contain Microsoft Word application fields.
One of the numerous sample applications, which ships with TX Text Control .NET 14.0 contains the following dialog box. It allows end-users to specify formatting options for individual application fields.
The dialog box is primarily intended to serve as an example of how all the new application field settings can be collected and displayed in one dialog box.
Using the dialog box, the contents of an application field can be made uppercase, lowercase, title case etc. Similarly, text can be prefixed or appended to the content of an application field.
With the 2007 version of Word, Microsoft introduced the DOCX file format, intended as a successor to its binary Microsoft Office file format.
DOCX is a combination of XML architecture and ZIP compression for size reduction, and has become a de facto standard in word processing document formats.
The open and save dialog boxes of TX Text Control .NET 14.0 have been updated to accommodate support for the DOCX file format.
All supported features of TX Text Control .NET can be exported and imported to and from DOCX files.
The improved page view mode enables developers to create applications with a modern look and feel.
Based on the currently set system colors, the color of the background behind the document can now be specifed.
64 bit processors can handle much more memory and larger files than their 32 bit pendants.
TX Text Control .NET 14.0 can now address this much larger memory space, thus enabling developers to build high-performance word processing applications.
Typically, word processing applications which are built with the 64 bit TX Text Control .NET version can open and save much larger files than was previously possible with the 32 bit versions of TX Text Control .NET.
Windows XP 64 bit and Windows Vista 64 bit (all editions) are supported.
TX Text Control .NET introduces a large number of new classes, properties, methods and events. For full details, please take a look at the technical documentation:
