Document conversion is a very common area of deployment for TX Text Control (especially for TX Text Control ActiveX Server).

Word processing documents can be loaded from and save to any other supported format. These include MS Word, XML, RTF or HTML. Consider the following scenarios:

Scenario A: Server-side conversion

An end-user has created a richly formatted document, complete with graphics, headers, footers and tables and has saved it as an RTF file to a local hard disk.

A server-side, TX Text Control ActiveX Server application has been created that accepts the end-user's RTF file via HTTP, converts it to a format of the end-user's choice (for example, PDF) and then sends it back to the end-user's browser.

Scenario B: Web publishing

An end-user who has created a Microsoft Word document can upload it to a web server, upon which TX Text Control ActiveX Server is running. TX Text Control ActiveX Server loads this document, saves it as HTML and copies it to a world readable directory, thus making it accessible to a world-wide audience on the Internet.

Scenario C: Legacy file conversion

Client-side applications can also benefit from TX Text Control's flexible document handling. For example, a client application can load a legacy RTF file and save it as a current Microsoft Word file (DOC) - complete with all the formatting of the original. With a few additional lines of code, this process can be automated, thus enabling batch operations to be performed.

Scenario D: Save directly to PDF

An invoice that was originally saved as a DOC file can be loaded into TX Text Control ActiveX or TX Text Control .NET and saved as a PDF file. Saving to PDF does not require any 3rd party applications, nor printer drivers. Adding a 'Save to PDF' option to your applications is just easy as offering end-users a 'Save to DOC' feature.
